American River Rafting - North Fork

The American River is the most popular river to raft in the Sierras. The smallest creek of the three forks of the American River, the North Fork is also the most scenic and thrilling. The North Fork of the American River Tumbles out of the Lake Tahoe basin, this un-dammed river flows through the chamberlain Fall Gorge as it descends to the confluence of the Middle fork.

The Class IV North-Fork of the American River is an hour east of Sacramento and runs in the springtime when the snow melts. It is an excellent choice for either adventurous first time rafters, or those who have tried Class III rafting and want to step up to something more challenging.

This spring run offers nearly continuous class III and Class IV rapids on a wild and scenic river corridor.

Rafting or whitewater rafting is a challenging recreational activity using an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other bodies of water. This is usually done on whitewater or different degrees of rough water, in order to thrill and excite the raft passengers. The development of this activity as a leisure sport has become popular since the mid-1970s.

California whitewater rafting includes many options for half-day, full-day, and multi-day river trips. The western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range offer steep and technical runs for the advanced and adventurous boater, whereas the character of the eastern slope rivers is more moderate and continuous.
